It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Roland Johnson, who left this world on May 26, 2026, at the age of 84. Ron passed with family by his side at the Clarissa C Cook Hospice House after a long fight with Pancreatic cancer. Born on December 2, 1941, in Davenport, Iowa, Ron was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His departure leaves an immense void in the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.
Ron was the son of William and Ada Johnson, who have since passed along with his sisters Sandra and Shirley, his brothers Wesley and Glenn, and his dear son Gregory.
In 1999, Ron embarked on a beautiful journey of love with Debby Meyer, whom he married on April 24th in Rock Island, IL. Their 27 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and countless precious memories. Together, they built a life centered around family, joy, and togetherness. Debby, along with his sons John (Carol) Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Kurt (Debbie) Johnson of Springdale, Arkansas, continue to carry forward Ron’s legacy of love and kindness.
Ron was the proud grandfather of David Johnson, Shane (Katie) Johnson, Shaun Johnson, Jay Johnson, and Angela (Travis) Sizemore. His heart swelled with pride at the mention of his great-grandchildren: Patrick, Peyton, Oliver, Ainsley, Abby, Nolen, Lainey, Jace, and Scarlett, each of whom brought him untold joy and happiness. He is fondly remembered by his sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, a multitude of nieces and nephews, and his special lifelong friend, Pat.
Ron spent his professional life at Alcoa, where he was an Electrical Foreman. Big Swede's commitment to his work and his colleagues was unwavering until his well-earned retirement. Beyond his career, Ron was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid golfer, a world traveler, and a master woodworker, creating beautiful furniture that now serve as cherished family heirlooms.
Ron had a unique gift for lighting up any room with his quick wit and infectious smile. His ability to tell a joke and lighten any mood was legendary among his friends and family. Whether at concerts or community functions, Ron thrived in the company of others, always ready to engage with strangers and friends alike.
The family invites all who knew and loved Ron to join them in a celebration of his life. As we gather to honor the remarkable life he led, let us remember the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of warmth, kindness, and joy that will forever be etched in our hearts. Celebration of life will be Sunday, May 31, from 11 to 2 o'clock at the United Steelworkers Hall, 880 Devils Glen Rd. Bettendorf, IA
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that checks be made in Ron's memory to a charity of your choice, Trinity Health to help families battling Pancreatic cancer or Clarissa C Cook Hospice House to continue his lifelong mission of helping and uplifting others. May Ron rest in eternal peace, forever in our hearts and minds.
