Raymond C. Marshall

June 23, 1941 — May 24, 2026

Geneseo

Raymond Curtis Marshall known lovingly as “Poor Ray,” 84, of Geneseo, IL, passed away in his home on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in the arms of his 3 children and youngest granddaughter.

Ray was born June 23, 1941, in Hannibal, MO to Robert D. and Hazel (Curtis) Marshall. He attended Moline High School and afterwards enjoyed working for Buddy L Toys and Rockingham Machinery. He married Christine Dargie on March 5, 1971 in Rock Island, IL. Refusing to retire completely, he moved to Las Vegas where he settled into casino work at both The Mirage and Bellagio. After many wonderful years in Las Vegas Ray and Chris moved back to Illinois to be closer to family and old friends.

A man who never met a stranger, he welcomed friends and neighbors with a smile and a ready story turning acquaintances into lifelong companions. After returning to Illinois he became his neighborhood handyman and took his post-retirement job of delivering mail to his neighbors and taking out their trash very seriously. A true jack of all trades, he could fix, modify or build nearly anything he set his hands to. From small household repairs to clever custom projects, his ingenuity and steady work ethic left a lasting mark on the lives and homes of those who knew him. He was also a fierce and friendly competitor at the pool table, playing in leagues and also challenging friends for bragging rights.

Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Chris; his parents Robert and Hazel; two sisters, Daisy Robinson and Jane Leitner; and a brother, Robert “Bob” Marshall.

Those left to cherish his memory include children Charlie (Connie) Marshall of Kahoka, MO; Brenda (Eddie) Taylor of Childress, TX and Scott Marshall of Geneseo, IL; grandchildren Nathan (Amanda) Marshall, Nancy (Keith) Whitaker and Cassie Neece; and great-grandchildren Katherine, Kyliee, Karley, Kaydey, Aiden, James, and Kenzliee. He is also survived by one sister, Betty Abney.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
