Leaving my temporary time on Earth I have decided to compose my own obituary. That being said, and
pondering over my life, I can say that I’ve had a good life and have few regrets. I was born the third
child of Gerald and Betty Rutherford, in Muscatine, Iowa. I enjoyed a happy childhood with my sisters
Betty Jo and Geraldine. I met my husband to be Gunter (Karl) Mahler in an Art Class while attending
Muscatine Junior College. After 2 years of dating, Karl proposed. We were married on Labor Day
September 3 rd , 1962, and shared 58 years together until his passing in 2020. Our marriage gave us two
wonderful children, our son Eric and daughter Adrianne. I had a full and interesting life enjoying time
with my family, wonderful friends in Sugar Arts, splashing friends at the “Y,” my job in Visual Display
work which gave me great pleasure, seeing my grandchildren grow up and become outstanding adults,
and enjoying the companionship of my dear pets. I have few regrets and want to be remembered as an
honest and sometimes silly person. I have requested cremation with no service and my ashes to be
added to a container which can be filled with a tree - my little payback to the earth that has given me so
much in my life. No tears please. Pick a sunny day, relax, have something delicious to eat, and take a
minute to think of me.
Survivors include children Eric (KC) Mahler, Adrianne (Steven) Case, sisters Geraldine Powley and Betty
Jo Bunn, grandchildren Gabrielle and Christian VanSpeybroeck, Carissa Bellomy, Alex Nasal and August
Mahler.
Preceded by parents, husband Karl, and infant daughter Alisha.
