Laura Manis

Laura A. Manis, 66, of Moline passed away May 28, 2016.

Quad Cities Cremation Center, Silvis, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Laurie was born Jan. 14, 1950, in Moline, the daughter of Gordon Johnson and Eli Johnson Grafton. She married Michael Harper Manis on June 12, 1971, in Moline. He passed away May 20, 1994.

In her professional life, Laurie served as an educator, having earned her bachelor's degree in history and English from Augustana College. She was an avid reader, a social activist, and enjoyed listening to The Cousins Three. She also loved spending summers at the family cottage in Michillinda, Mich.

Survivors include her sons, Charlie (Melissa) Manis and Geoffrey (Jennifer) Manis; grandson, Harper Michael Manis; siblings, Kathryn (Steve Kuemmerle) Johnson, Gordon Johnson and Betsey (Rick Sherman) Johnson; nieces and nephews, Pamela Kuemmerle, Harris Kuemmerle, Will Sherman and Eliza Sherman.

Laurie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her in-laws, Emily and Roy Manis.

Friends and family are invited to a casual Irish Wake at 5:30 p.m. June 10 at the Lake Davenport Sailing Club. In lieu of flowers, Laurie would simply ask that you not vote for Donald Trump. Memorials may be made to the Manis Educational Fund.
